Reintegration received a referral from Probation Services for a fifteen-year-old female who showed a keen interest in playing hockey.<\/p>\n
She struggles with impulsivity, aggression, and emotional regulation which resulted in an expelled student status. Thankfully she was open to the idea of change and learning new ways to cope with and manage difficult times. Her family is low-income and not able to afford an organized leisure\/recreation activity. She put a proposal together with the help of her Reintegration Worker, then attended a store that buys, sells and trades sports gear to make a budget for purchasing second-hand equipment.<\/p>\n
Rather than spend money on transportation, the youth determined she could walk to the arena where the hockey clinic is located. This proposal was passed on to Probation who determined enrollment in a Recreation\/leisure opportunity would certainly provide access to a more pro-social peer group and the request was accepted. To say this youth was excited would be an understatement!<\/p>\n
